I have been a fan of Melissa shoes for quite some time, and was thrilled to have the opportunity to try out a pair of their sneakers. As a brand, they are known for making fashion -forward, flexible, water resistant shoes, using sustainable materials and manufacturing processes.
Melissa is very widely known for their jelly sandals, I didn’t know that they made sneakers. This sneaker style is available in several different colorways; it was difficult to decide which one to get. Ultimately, I went with the green and orange combination. The green is a gorgeous, smoky sage shade, with a very subtle pearlescent gold undertone which gives it a lot of dimension. The orange is more of a vivid, cool-toned coral color rather than a warm red or yellow based orange; it’s pure and saturated with a glossy finish that pops contrasted against the smoky sage pearlescent sheen.
I ordered a size 9, which is what typically fits me best. Shortly after they arrived, I laced them up and put them on to check their fit. They fit exactly as they should. The following day, I wore them all day, they maintained a high level of comfort the entire time.
Because of the material they are made from and the branding, they have a distinctive scent which is noticeable right away. If my feet were located right next to my nose it may have been bothersome, but thank goodness, (for so many reasons), that is not the case. It’s not a bad scent, it’s just somewhat odd and difficult to discern. After wearing these sneakers out and about all day, once I removed them I noticed that the smell had died down significantly. Within a matter of a month, maybe less, that scent of tropical fruit, mixed with bubblegum and plastic will completely disappear, and it will inevitably gain the smell of foot funk like any other pair of shoes. So if that is a concern, I would not give it much consideration.
Otherwise, these sneakers are great! They are incredibly comfortable, and look fantastic styled in a number of different ways. I love to get outside and walk, which I do often regardless of rain, snow, or shine. Wearing sneakers outside in inclement weather only exacerbates wear and tear and shortens their lifespan. But since these sneakers are water-resistant and constructed completely out of synthetic materials they won’t deteriorate in those conditions like fibers on shoes made from a combination of fabrics and synthetic materials. This style of sneakers is going to be best suited for casual wear and low impact recreation. They are not going to replace normal athletic shoes for high impact activities. Because they are made from such a flexible material, they are able to mold perfectly to most foot shapes. I have a very high arch and usually feel most comfortable wearing shoes with a bit of a heel, but the plasticity of these sneakers along with the built in cushion in each sole makes them feel very pleasant during wear, and they provide more than adequate support for my arches.
These sneakers surpassed all my expectations in such a big way! They bring an enormous amount of comfort and style to my everyday life. These sneakers check all the boxes; they fit perfectly, feel comfortable, look fantastic, are priced affordably, and are built to last. There are so many things to love about these sneakers; for anyone in need of a great pair of everyday shoes, or for any other shoe lover out there- I would not hesitate to give these a go! You will not regret it!
I was unfamiliar with the Melissa brand when I ordered the Motion Sneaker. I went with the Beige and Black, as I was concerned whether or not the shoe colors in the photos were accurate. The other colors do look fun. The color and shoes are as pictured. For me, wearing "jelly" sneakers was a little odd sensation, eventually getting settled. These are definitely dry season shoes because of the "air holes" at the toes.
I was drawn to these Melissa shoes because of their distinctive perforated design, but I stayed for the incredible comfort! These are unlike any other slip-on shoes I've owned.

I am surprised at how comfortable these sneakers are! They feel pretty supportive and fit close to the foot all over. There are vents at the toe for breathability, and a bump at the back that keeps my heel from sliding up and down. I thought these might rub, but they don't. I think the fit is the key here. I normally wear a 7.5-8 and got a 7 in these, which is an EU 38, as that's always my size in Melissa. They fit me well without socks, a little tighter with thin socks, but they are flexible enough that they don't pinch or bind my foot. So I'm not sure if I would have sized up with these, though if you want to wear thicker socks, you might want to go up a size. They are really cute, the quality is great, and I love the retro sporty style and black-and-white colorway. They smell yummy too, as all Melissa shoes do. These will be great for damp days, or anytime cuteness with dresses, skirts, shorts or jeans. Love them.
Fit/Sizing – I'm a US women's shoe size 8.5 or 9, regular width, shallow girth. Whole sizes only, ordered 9. My foot slips in the heel too much. An 8.5 would have been perfect. Disagree with reviewer w/ wide feet who says these are "only for narrow feet". They fit my regular width feet just fine. Can't really complain when you order regular width shoes and that's what arrives, no? But yeah, if you have wide feet you may need to order wide shoes. Insole surprisingly comfortable but I'm not super fussy.
Materials/Design – My phone does weird stuff so trust product photos for color, not mine. Liked the color combination. Shiny orange "M" shape on matte blue-green, w/ matching laces. Small defect, a bit of the blue-green material adhered to the orange material during manufacture, and isn't something that will come off. I doubt people would scrutinize my feet but it's enough to catch the light and cast a shadow, and I notice it. Finally, the smell. Or, I guess, the "bubblegum scent". I completely believe these shoes have an unavoidable, strong plasticky odor so they tried to mask it w/ another chemical and call it a "scent", as though it's a unique feature of this brand and not off-gassing.
I take time to write honest reviews that I would find helpful. Taking 1 star off because they are largely as pictured and described, but I can't say how they hold up since I can't wear them. If these arrived unblemished, in a size available that fit my very ordinary feet, I may have rated 5 stars.
